Wabash Valley Area Race
Directors,
Hello. My name is Scott
Rhodes and I serve as the Events Coordinator for the Wabash Valley Road Runners
(WVRR). My position was formerly titled Club Race Director. The WVRR Board is
ready to take the club in a new direction and wanted differentiate specific jobs
within the Board and thus created the position of Events Coordinator. So, you
might be wondering what can the WVRR Events Coordinator do for my race and me.
Well the Events Coordinator, or I, can serve as a resource and aid you in
preparing for your event. I know most of you have been doing your races for
several years and already have your "ducks in a row," so to speak. Yet,
there could be times when you might need something or some type of assistance
and that is when you can contact me. It is my intention that together we can
work to make your event the best that it can be. I will provide my contact
information and I look forward to hearing from you.
As well as introducing
myself I want to share with you WVRR's new policy concerning the usage of the
timing clock and race equipment. In the past race directors would contact the
Club Race Director to request and reserve the equipment for their event and it
was usually the Club Race Director who would transport the equipment and operate
the clock. This practice of transporting the equipment, setting it up and giving
up most Saturdays during the racing season was too much to ask of one person.
So, in an attempt of fairness and sharing of the burden, the club has chosen to
compile a list of Board approved, dependable and trustworthy WVRR members that
are willing to volunteer their time at various races throughout the area. Race
Directors need to contact the Events Coordinator to see if the club equipment is
available for their event and to see if there are volunteers willing to help at
their event. Every attempt will be made to get the club race equipment to an
event, but Race Directors must realize that we are an all volunteer organization
and it might not be possible to find someone willing to donate their time for
their event. Enclosed is the new policy regarding the fees and use of the club
equipment.
I also want to extend an
invitation to you, as the area's Race Directors, to volunteer and serve as
timers. Not only would your volunteering benefit WVRR, it would also give you
the opportunity to meet and network with other Race Directors, garner new ideas
for your races as well as gain more participants for your races by spreading the
word about your events. Again I want to express my enthusiasm as I accept this
new position with the WVRR and I want to extend to you an open hand to improve
the already great running, walking and racing events that our area has to offer.
Sincerely,
Wabash
Valley Road Runners
